How to prevent underarm odor
Have you been struggling with bad BO? Yes, smelly armpits that is.
I know I’ve been. It was something that got worse once I became a nurse who was under a lot of stress during times of work. I knew that something had to change, especially because I work in close proximity to my patients.
It was a scent only a person with the underarm odor can love…
I remember getting caught by a random person at a Macy’s Department store for taking a good whiff of my armpits. Somewhat like this girl and this flower.
My underarm odor grew worse as I got older, once I became a mother, and even more worse when I became a nurse.
Are other people smelling this? I had some hints.

I knew I had to do something about it and find a way to prevent this underarm odor, but I just couldn’t figure out how.
Nothing was working at preventing my underarm odor…
I can’t say that I tried all brands of deodorants and perspirants. Honestly, I’ve tried only a few. I’ve tried Dove and Degree before realizing that maybe I needed something stronger, like a man’s deodorant!
Yup, you heard that right..
I was desperate!
However, I still had smelly armpits even when using men’s deodorant, so I just learned to live with it.
I first found out about NATIVE deodorant after watching many mommy YouTube channels. The majority of them were talking about it. To be honest, I just thought; “here we go again, another girl wanting to go vegan.” It was funny to me.
Oh, but the joke was on me.
There I am standing in the deodorant aisle of a Target finding myself wanting to purchase this expensive, yet, aesthetically pleasing deodorant.
Yes, I blame it on the packaging. Don’t let the price scare you, because you will not believe what this product has done for me, and what it can do for you!
I know, that sounded cheesy..
BUT, that’s how I really feel!
It was finally time to take action..
“The time has come!”
So, while NATIVE was just sitting pretty on my bathroom counter, I decided to finally give it a try. NOTE, I’m a sweater. The type that starts sweating even after a shower.
I’ll usually start to produce a mild underarm odor even at the start of my day. Especially then, when my baby was starting to crawl and becoming more active.
Going back and as the day went on, I still had no body odor. I was in denial and I kept waiting for the odor to come back, but it didn’t!
Holy MOTHER! Did I just get rid of my armpit odor? !
A natural deodorant claiming it has effective odor protection eh?
It made me wonder why this deodorant and not that deodorant? So, I went into their site to read about them.
NATIVE is an aluminum free deodorant. The site compiled a list of what makes them different.
Native basically contains antacids that help balance out the body’s acidic environment. This creates a more neutral environment, thus preventing odor-causing bacteria.
I guess it was the aluminum making my underarms even more acidic in an already acidic environment. Oh, so the antacid ingredients, baking soda and magnesium hydroxide, can be drying.
However, the product also contains shea butter and coconut, which are both moisturizing.
The part I found interesting was it also contains tapioca starch which states is suppose to minimize the “icky feeling” that sweat usually causes.
Remember when I said that I was a sweater? Well, I’ll usually start to feel sticky in the underarms. However, with Native, I would sweat but would never get that sticky feeling. I would actually feel more wet than anything.
Did it deliver?
8 months in and I still don’t have underarm odor while wearing it. Note, this was while wearing it.
However, I will have a scent when not wearing it. It’s a vague scent that I’d probably be an alien if I told you that I had no odor..
It’s so mild that it only occurs if I haven’t showered the following morning,
let it linger to the following-following morning,
maybe into the day,
and sometimes night.
YUP! Don’t judge me!
Mom life! That’s wassup, and proud of it!
Nothing baby wipes couldn’t do..
Jokes aside. I wouldn’t even call it mild BO.
Has anyone ever told you that you smell like sleep?
C’mon don’t leave me hanging..
Just kidding. I was never told that, but I do tell my son that; and it’s somewhat like the smell of sleep, but in your armpits.
If you still don’t get it. It’s like really diving your nose into your armpits and congratulating yourself for finding an odor.
How to prevent underarm odor Native Deodorant home trial
Amazed by the product in getting rid of my body odor, I had to purchase one for my husband and my son..
who is actually going through puberty.
I just had to know if it worked the same way for them.
So, you’re probably dying to know..
The result of Native Deodorant
I have found that it did effectively control both of their odors! However, it didn’t work instantly on my husband like it did for me and my son. It actually started working for my husband after his 3rd or 4th use.
The cons of Native Deodorant
This product also makes me perspire within the armpits more than usual. It does get better throughout the day, and surprisingly doesn’t produce an odor. On the other hand, this was not true for my husband and son.
This really put into perspective how products work differently based on the individual’s body make up.
Also, it has a grainy texture making it feel more rough than other deodorants I am use to. It doesn’t bother me, nor my son and husband.
Not sure if this is true with the other scents. If you have tried other NATIVE scents, please let me know.
In addition, it’s a little on the pricey side compared to its competitors at stores like Target.
But, it would be considered affordable, when it comes to other higher end natural, eco-friendly deodorants.
Unfortunately I am not allowed to disclose prices as prices may change.
The pros of Native Deodorant
The first and obvious pro is that the brand claimed what it said it could do, which was effectively removing body odor. The brand also states that this product is aluminum free and vegan/cruelty free.
I can’t speak for others when I say that the benefits outweigh the cons, but I have been using this deodorant for 8 months now, and am still completely odor free while wearing it.
My husband also loves this product and is still using it to this day.
My son is whatever about it. He’s a tween, he’s a boy, and that is basically his thoughts about almost everything except video games and video game gift cards.
Although, when asked if he still smells like onions; he did say no.
NATIVE is a natural deodorant claiming that it can effectively remove odor. From my experience, it did exactly what it claimed. Putting my experience into practice, using both my husband and my son, I have found that it was true for them too. Like every pro, there are cons. It can be pricey for some, it may make you perspire, and it can be grainy in texture. Overall, It is hands down, the best deodorant that I have ever tried in effectively removing odor.
Have you tried Native deodorant or any other natural deodorant? Has it worked for you or gave you any issues? Any suggestions on other natural deodorants that effectively remove odor? If so, let me know, and comment down below.
